If you are like us you still have chills from Mr. Glover’s freestyle on Hot 97 last week. Our Gambino withdraws have been assuaged with this “rough” cut of his song “Sober”. With rumors of a new mixtape swirling around, this single seems to make that more of a reality. In “Sober”, Gambino eschews his normal rapping style for a more traditional singing verse. At about two-thirds of the way into the song, he kicks a “yeah”, thinking that he’s about to go off on a the track. But alas, a melodic flow of electric music comes through, resolving with Gambino reverting back to the chorus. A simple song lyrically, it is rather magical and full of music whimsy.
