“Twister” by Your New Favorite Band The Rooks

A first listen on “Twister” is like tasting a full bodied pinot noir. A lot of notes hit you at once, automatically swelling you with flavor and amazement. But as you let it resolve, you realize how complex all of those elements are, and you are swept away by the finish. The Rooks are a (in their own words) an “indie-soul sextet” with a great love for “Beyonce, playing house parties, and performing Motown covers”. You can hear all of these stylings in their music. The funk of the guitar and drum snap is so rock, but the vocals are so R&B, but the groove is so funk. It’s like Lenny Kravitz, John Mayer, James Brown, and Bob Dylan just all crammed themselves into one band and, voila, The Rooks.
