We are very proud to welcome Ericka Blount Danois to the soulhead family. Recently, we were introduced to her by Michael A. Gonzales, who joined earlier this year as a contributor. Although we had never met, I was very familiar with her previous writing in Wax Poetics, Vibe and many others. Not only was I impressed by her wealth of first hand experiences with artists and music, but I loved the fact that we both had roots in the great DMV! We look forward to her future contributions including music reviews, interviews and longer form features.
For those of you who are not as familiar with Ericka’s work, she is an award-winning writer who writes about pop culture, music, sports, and television. She is the author of “Love, Peace and Soul, Behind the Scenes of America’s Favorite Dance Show, Soul Train.” She has worked as a research director for the film, “Time Is Illmatic ,” about the legendary hip-hop artist Nas and his seminal album, Illmatic. She has written for the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, ESPN, the Magazine, Sports Illustrated, JazzTimes, Spin, and Vibe magazine, among others.
