@BET Presents #TheMessage Episode 3 [FULL EPISODE]

Continuing in the series, this episode of The Message  explores gender dynamics in hip-hop. Touching on the presence of early female MCs like MC Lyte and Queen Latifah and looking at the emergence of more sexually explicit acts such as Lil Kim and Foxy Brown, the episode only begins to scratch the surface of the extent to which misogyny has influenced hip-hop. Rightfully, this angle dovetailed too into the conversation of materialism in hip hop, as it has been used as a tool to perpetuate a sort of fantasy of hip-hop. Indeed, this episode brings up- if not truly commits to deconstructing- the more problematic aspects of hip-hop culture.
