In lieu of his upcoming album, Blurred Lines, Robin Thicke released an EP by the same title.
Blurred Lines EP consists of 6 tracks, including the title-track featuring TI & Pharrell. Blurred Lines, the song, does an insufficient job of fusing an old school soul sound with pop music. The song lacks soul and does not make use of Thickes vocal abilities. Thicke appears to making an effort to crossover into the pop mainstream & international markets rather than sticking with his urban (read: Black) R&B audience; Blurred Lines (Laidback Luke Remix) seems to confirm this position.
Have you ever been at a club dancing, really feeling the music and then the DJ turns on techno, house music and youre like what the hell? Well, thats the feeling that one might get, if Blurred Lines (Laidback Luke Remix) comes on. The remix is anything but laidback. This track is for an international or non urban music crowd. Both tracks are hits overseas.
On track 3, When I Get You Alone, we start to see the soul in Robins music reemerge; however, Thickes vocals are very weak in this particular track.
The last 3 tracksLost Without You, Magic, and Sex Therapyare Robin Thickes better known songs. All 3 songs are very unmistakably R&B. The tracks are well produced and could be played on repeat without any complaint.
It will be very interesting to see what route Robin takes on Blurred Lines. Will the album be more pop influenced or will Thicke stick to what has worked best for him.
