With this year marking the 20th anniversary of his landmark debut album Illmatic, he has just unveiled “The Season,” a single that reminds us of his unrivaled prowess on the microphone. Coupled with the beats provided from the late-great J Dilla, this song easily transports us right back to 1994. The gravitation toward nostalgic hip-hop is strong this year, but appropriate, as it is proving hip-hop’s knack for aging well, like vintage wine.
